Metal fans in Kentucky can rejoice for the inaugural Clairvoyance Festival this summer, which features a stacked line-up including Khemmis, Young Widows and Wreckmeister Harmonies. The show will take place on July 13th at Cosmic Charlies in Lexington, Kentucky, with doors for the show opening at 12, while the first performance take place at 1 p.m.
According to the event’s Facebook page tickets are $45 bucks in advance, $50 at the door and $85 for special VIP tickets for the event. Cosmic Charlies is well-known in its city for hosting many up-and-coming indie acts for its locals, in addition to its themed metal shows.
In a small press heading, the organizers state:
“To celebrate the one year anniversary of Psychic City, we bring you CLAIRVOYANCE. This curated day event features some of the best modern artists that the dark and weird has to offer. In addition to the music, we will have food, drink, and merchandise vendors on site as well as a few other surprises. Come see the future with us…”
Khemmis have been having a busy year, signing to Nuclear Blast in February and hosting a ton of shows across the U.S in support of their latest release Desolation which came out last summer. Although they just recently signed with the record label, Nuclear Blast was present for much of the recording process for Desolation, which was released off the band’s former label 20 Buck Spin.
“We knew that we were going to be putting out the album with them doing the licensing for the rest of the world, I think before we even had anything written for it. I would say it didn’t really affect the way we approached anything,” band member Phil Pendergast told Invisible Oranges. “We knew the kind of record we wanted to make and if anything through the touring that we have been doing recently, we learned that we want to write bigger-sounding songs that play well to a bigger stage. That’s the kind of places where we’re going to be playing from now on. We want it to be suited to playing a large venue and it being a little bit more bombastic.”
Pendergast further explained that the band wanted this louder change so they could perform at larger venues across the U.S. With this latest record the band sought to create larger sounds so that the audience can enjoy their performance at a large stadium sized show.
“Iron Maiden partially sounds the way they do because they’ve been playing giant stadiums their entire life. We would like to be playing some big venues,” Pendergast continued in the interview.”If anything influenced the direction that we took on this album it was wanting to write a more complex record and trying to write something that’s sounded bigger that we can play to a bigger audience. I don’t think the licensing deal had anything to do with that.”
