Experimental rock group Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway, also known as Scars on Broadway, has released a music video for the track “Angry Guru,” from their album Dictator, which came out a year ago. The video features a collage style, alternating from a cat to a skull “singing” the lyrics of the song. The video reflects the themes of the song, flashing images of broken electronic charging cords, perhaps in a reference to the false idols that humankind possesses, leading to the guru’s anger as suggested by the title.
The release of this music video comes after the group’s brief tour in March and the announcement that Daron Malakian will not be producing more music with his other band, System of a Down, for the foreseeable future. Dictator, the album which “Angry Guru” is from, is only the second album from Scars on Broadway after their eponymous record, which was released in 2008. Dictator was produced in only ten days, with Malakian recording both vocals and all of the instruments.
In an interview with MXDWN, Malakian stated that he will “probably put out more music” with the group, but for now, we will be watching the “Angry Guru” video in a loop in an attempt to decipher its surreal images and message that “silence leads to violence.”
