Heavy metal band Baroness has announced tour for summer 2019. The band plans to use this tour to promote their new album, Gold & Grey, which is set to be released on June 14. However, the tour will be showcasing the band in a more unique way than their fans are used to. The shows will be entirely acoustic and will be performed solely at indie record stores.

The news of this tour comes after the announcement of Baroness’ more conventional tour of North America, which began in April and will continue until August. The acoustic performance dates will be woven into their previous schedule for seven shows in June.

The ambitious tour comes in spite of the chronicled changes of the band. Baroness has gone through their fair share of lineup changes, currently with only one original band member remaining: John Baizley, who is their lead vocalist. The other three members of the band have been involved over part of the last decade, though the band has been running since 2003. However, Baroness has maintained the same metal sound that they have been producing for the entirety of the band’s run.

A recent statement on the current members’ social media accounts suggests that the upcoming album and tour may be the last sights of the band together, though. In the caption of a photo entailing the cover art for Gold & Grey, the band stated: “This painting was born from a deeply personal reflection on the past 12 years of this band’s history, and will stand as the 6th and final piece in our chromatically-themed records.” The cover seems to depict the sight of a bus crash in 2012, in which the band’s bus fell 30 feet, leaving John Baizley with two broken limbs, and Allen Blickle and Matt Maggioni with fractured vertebrae. The latter two members left the band shortly after the accident, and as depicted by the cover art and statement, the band has never fully recovered.

Despite rocky history of Baroness, they have produced five albums over the past 16 years and plan to go out with a testament true to their aesthetic during their tours this summer.
