Indie rock band, The National, has released a music video for their new single “Hairpin Turns.” The track is the third to be released from the group’s upcoming album, I Am Easy To Find. The album, which is due to be released on May 17, will be the eighth full studio album by the band and is a special project between the group and filmmaker Mike Mills. Mills and The National connected last year to work together on a project and the collaboration culminated in the creation of the I Am Easy To Find album and its accompanying short film of the same name. The short film will be directed by Mills and stars Academy Award winning actress Alicia Vikander. A series of worldwide screenings were also recently announced for the film, with showings taking place in Los Angeles, London and many other cities.
The music video for “Hairpin Turns” displays the band as they naturally are playing their music, with viewers looking in on all the different aspects of the song. When discussing the video, Mike Mills, who directed the music video as well, said that the goal behind “Hairpin Turns” was to create a sense of intimacy between the viewers and the band. The video also depicts close friends and associates of the band who all had an impact on the creative process which led to the song. One of the main focuses of the “Hairpin Turns” music video is dancer Sharon Eyal, who choreographed a dance specifically for the occasion. Overall it is a unique look into each of the different instrumentals on the album and the process behind putting them together.
This music video is not the only film to be released by the band this week, as the screenings for the I Am Easy To Find short film are set to begin on May 6. The first two screenings of the 24-minute long movie will take place that day in Copenhagen, Denmark and Sydney, Australia. As the week progresses more screenings will take place in Los Angeles, Milan, Tokyo and a wide range of other cities from around the globe. These screenings will be the only place to see the movie before its official release alongside the album on May 17. Until then, the music video for “Hairpin Turns” can be found below.
