SummerStage: The Mountain Goats @ East River Park 8/10

One of the most anticipated seasonal events of the year has returned: the annual NYC City Parks Foundation SummerStage has announced their season of shows, which is packed to the brim with just about 100 shows featuring 200 different artists throughout the summer. Although traditionally held in Central Park, this year’s SummerStage features shows in various parks throughout New York City – from Brooklyn Bridge Park to Jackie Robinson Park and nearly everything in between. These varying venues allow for shows of all shapes, sizes, and genres to take over NYC and give residents a diverse showcase to choose from.

One of the more intimate experiences on this year’s lineup is a show by indie folk-rockers the Mountain Goats. This show takes place on Saturday, August 10th at East River Park in Manhattan, and is completely free of charge. It’s open to all ages as well – so get there early to get a good seat! Gates open at 5:00pm sharp, with the show beginning at 6:00pm.

The Mountain Goats are primarily known for their jangly, raw take on folk rock, usually realized with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and lead vocalist John Darnielle’s recognizable vocal timbre. They’ve got quite the catalog of material under their belt, with a whopping nineteen studio albums to their name since the band’s inception in 1994. Currently signed to Merge Records, their latest record In League With Dragons was released on April 26 and proves itself to be more polished than the band’s past releases; however, their signature charm is never lost.

If you’re looking for a fun night, stop on by to see the Mountain Goats – you won’t regret it.

Melissa Aiello: Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Melissa and I am a 24-year-old passionate lover of all things related to music and live entertainment. I've been singing since the second grade, and playing guitar for the past five years. I grew up in a fairly musical household, with my grandfather breaking out his accordion and starting sing-a-longs at every family gathering. It was here that I began falling in love with music and its power to change moods, emotions, and lives. My taste in music goes far and wide - you name it, I'll (probably) listen to it. My hundreds of Spotify playlists include everything from Biggie to ABBA to the Jonas Brothers (thank GOD they're back together) to Dolly Parton and everything in-between. I aim for my little corner of the internet to spread love and positivity for all this beautiful music, and give you the opportunity to see or hear artists you may otherwise have not heard of.
