DIIV, the indie rock band from New York City recently announced a new album via Instagram, sharing “hi lp3 2019”. They also released a short documentary called “Deep DIIV” on Tidal but is no longer on the platform.
Their ex-bassist, Devin Ruben Perez was finally let go from the band in 2017 confirms Pitchfork. After hateful comments from Perez resurfaced in 2014 his status in the band fell apart. Perez made racist and anti-semitic comments on Reddit enraging many fans of DIIV. All the members of the band were infuriated by Perez’s comments and had intense discussions about Perez’s spot in the band. After Perez’s Reddit comments resurfaced, Zachary Cole Smith tweeted, “I will never EVER tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, bullying, or bigotry of any kind. I’m doing everything to get to the bottom of this”. Smith stated that conversations around Perez’s position in the band were being questioned and finally Perez left DIIV in 2017. The band toured with Deafheaven for two months in the fall of 2018. Devin Perez was not a part of the Deafheaven tour and his presence went unnoticed by many fans. The band has carried on without Perez and will release new music in the near coming future.
