Chvrches, the pop band recently collaborated with the EDM producer, Marshmello on a new track called, “Here With Me”. The band and the producer made a fun pop electric song and even performed together at Coachella 2019. Although Marshmello and Chvrches were have been constantly collaborating musically, Chvrches recently released a statement on twitter surrounding Mello’s choice to work with Chris Brown and Tyga.
According to Pitchfork, Chvrches’s twitter post stated, “We are really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown”. The band clarified their statement even further surrounding the situation, “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behavior. That is not something we can or will stand behind”. Both artists, Tyga, and Chris Brown have questionable rap sheets and therefore have driven the band, Chvrches to share their disappointment around Mello’s decision to work with them.
Tyga was accused of statutory rape with his ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner who was 17 at the time when he released his song, “Pleazer”. The song made many listeners question Tyga when he raps, “T nasty, ’bout to catch a felony for it”. He was also accused of having an inappropriate conversation with a 14-year old girl via Instagram. His manager claimed that Tyga was only talking to her because of her music and that she also stated that she was 17.
Chris Brown was prosecuted in 2009 for domestic violence against the singer, Rihanna. He was released in 2015 on probation and has since then been accused of more violence against women. Most recently, the singer was accused of aggravated rape in January 2019. The accused assault happened in Paris, France. He denied the allegations and was sent back to the US while an investigation continued. Neither Chvrches nor Marshmello has not made any further statements about his musical decision.
