Prince’s Estate Announces Plans to Release a New Album of Unreleased Prince Demos for June 2019 Release

Prince has always been known to be a prominent singer-songwriter in the music industry, writing classic hits like ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,” “Nasty Girl” and ‘Manic Monday” for other artists in the business, none being uncredited with his impact on the hits. On his birthday, June 7th, The Prince Estate and Warner Bros. Records will release Originals, a new album featuring previously unreleased demos by Prince himself, according to Pitchfork.

The 15-track demo album will feature 14 previously unreleased recordings by Prince of such popular songs. The collection is comprised of songs written by Prince and later recorded by artists such as Time, Vanity 6, the Bangles, Apollonia 6 and many more. Starting on June 7th, Originals will be streamed exclusively on TIDAL for two, full weeks. On June 21st, Warner Bros. Records will release the demo project on CD.

Variety reports, the only track that has been previously released by Prince himself is the original 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was issued as a standalone single in 2018. The song was originally released by The Family in 1985, which was also made into a recognizable No. 1 single by Sinead O’Connor in 1990. Some of the songs on the album feature repeated artist names, such as four songs he produced for Sheila E. and two songs for The Time.

All of the tracks on the demo album were selected collaboratively by Troy Carter, on behalf of the estate, and Jay-Z. Check below for the entire tracklist.

In terms of music, play me a smooth jazz tune, an upbeat pop song, or an unheard indie artist and I'm sure I'll become infatuated by the music.
