DJ-turned-superproducer Mark Ronson rallied Swedish indie-pop singer/songwriter Lykke Li for his “Late Night Feelings” music video, which is the title track of Ronson’s upcoming fifth studio album Late Night Feelings. Its lead single, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” featuring Miley Cyrus was dropped last November. The second single “Late Night Feelings” featuring Lykke Li comes slightly late but alongside with the full-length album that will be released on June 21 via Columbia Records. Pre-order here.
Late Night Feelings collects a star-studded cast, collaborators as Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, Alicia Keys, YEBBA, Angel Olson, King Princess, The Last Artful, Dodgr, Diana Gordon, and Ilsey. The “A Star is Born” producer harvested Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award but still defined the album as “definitely the best thing” he has ever made.
In the 60s-inspired style music video, Lykke Li stars as a lounge performer who has a crush on Mark Ronson. Styling with pinky-red wig, see-through nightgown and white feather boa, Li dresses herself up at the late night at the beginning of the video. Then the scene moves on to where she emotionally stares at the Ronson’s picture on the wall and later dances with Ronson’s character on analog television set. Both of them give their kisses to each other even if they were being apart from TV. She tries to call Ronson by telephone but still can’t make the move. The end of the clip was the lounge performer imaging herself dancing with Ronson under shining mirrored-disco ball on the stage.
Mark Ronson has described the album as a collection of “sad bangers,” where he couldn’t hide behind others’ characters as the way he previously produced for other artists. Late Night Feelings has “emotional resonance” in his word, which seems as a proven fact by the story behind the leading music video of “Late Night Feelings.” Check out the video below.
