Devin Townsend unveils his tour plans for the next few years, where he will bring different bands for different tours into the live shows. Although he is currently on tour in Europe, it was announced that he will also be going on a North American tour this spring and summer with Avatar, Dance With The Dead and 68′. From what we know so far, the tour will have a little bit of everything, punk rock, electronic dance, heavy metal, etc. It will be interesting to see how the bands and various instruments will mesh with one another. Townsend will then end with a full Empath tour in 2021.
Ive been auditioning people Ive had my eye on for upcoming tours. Basically my plan is to do different tours with different bands over the next few years…each specializing in different styles in different territories, then ending with a handful of ‘Empath in full’ shows in 2021

Inventive and creative, the tours only go to exemplify the manner in which he seems to view music, as ever changing and eclectic in nature. He has delved into a variety of genres over the years and combined all different sounds while somehow making it cohesive. This experience will be unique for audience members, just as the distinctions between his solo work, DTP, and his latest album Empath are. He responds to followers about the content of the tour.
…maybe

I know who I’m working with by this point, it’s all just logistics now.

On his Empath album alone, he had three drummers, so it makes sense that there will be some logistics to work out, but it looks like Townsend’s got a feel for what this tour will be like even if all the details aren’t solidified yet.
