Producer Scott Hansen, known as Tycho, has released the first single for his next upcoming album. The track, titled “Easy,” is the first song released by Tycho on the Mom + Pop label, which it was announced he was signing with this morning. The still untitled LP that “Easy” will be a part of is going to be Tycho’s first major release on the label and his first album since 2016’s Epoch. Epoch was Tycho’s most successful album to date, earning him a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic album in 2017. The album was also claimed by many in the music industry to be one of the best of the year. Since then fans have been eagerly awaiting for what he will come up with next.
Released just this morning, “Easy” is the first taste of the new album that Tycho plans to have released later this year. The track is a smooth and calming electronic song, one which sounds very similar to something that could have found its way onto an Aphex Twin ambient album. That is up until the end, however, when Tycho adds in some haunting vocals performed by Saint Sinner. The song itself sounds much more naturally inspired than Epoch, showing the progression Tycho has made as an artist over recent years. If the whole album turns out similar to “Easy” then fans will get a taste of a whole new side of Tycho.
This subtle change in style and atmosphere coincides with the not so subtle shift in labels undergone by Hansen today. After being a part of Ghostly International for over a decade, Tycho stated it was time for him to move forward and grow as an artist. Over his time with Ghostly International, Hansen went from producing music in his spare time to being a Grammy nominated artist. With all that change in his life, Hansen said he simply needed a fresh start to continue progressing. While he is sad about leaving Ghostly International, Tycho is excited to begin sharing his new music with fans through Mom + Pop. You can find Tycho’s new song “Easy” below.
