Sound Problems Mar Lizzo’s Set and Guest Appearances by Nicki Minaj and Vince Staples During Coachella 2019 Weekend One

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival weekend one is officially over, but one of the most influential music festivals doesn’t terminate perfectly. Sounds problem in live performances is being complained about by festivalgoers and online audiences.

Lizzo’s debut show in day three of Coachella’s first weekend was interrupted by sounds techniques issues. Pitchfork reports, “While Lizzo was performing ‘Worship,’ the backing track cut out mid-song, forcing Lizzo singing the song acapella.” However, fans were showing love and respect when the backup dancers and DJ kept performing despite the cutting-in-and-out audio. Lizzo declared, “It’s my first-time playing Coachella, so ain’t nothing gonna fuck my time up, bitch!” A while later, she responded to the unexpected problems with an energetic performance of “Juice” in “Cuz I Love You” set. The sounds problems also appeared in Ariana Grande’s performance when she brought out Nicki Minaj for “Side to Side.” According to Pitchfork, The duo tried to drop a hint with “occasionally gesturing at their earpieces, indicating technical issues.” Ariana Grande even called for help, “We can’t hear anything!” Meanwhile Nicki Minaj also rapped, “Give the mic some sync.” Both experienced performers finished their acts even if they lost the sounds in their mic monitors.

The mic technical issues previously popped up a day before the last day of weekend one, reported by iHeartRadio. On the second night, Vince Staples in Billie Eilish’s Coachella debut show fell into a different sound problem. The surprise guest was rapping his verse with no sound so that audiences didn’t even notice his performance in gloomy lights. But the rapper tweeted the reason of malfunction and his support to Eilish, “Im actually mute so there’s that. Cillie Eilish Coachella !!!”

Serpentwithfeet played a small crowd in the Mojave tent on Saturday afternoon, April 13. But there were few cutting-out moments of the backing track in the experimental musician’s set. Known for his improvisational styles, Serpentwithfeet accompanied himself on beautiful vocals and soulful lyrics, who provided a personalized set with backing dancers.
