A month after the release of LSD’s hit “No New Friends” they finally released the song’s music video. The video came out early in the morning Tuesday, April 16th and has already received over half a million views. LSD, composed of Sia, Labrinth, and Diplo, is an optimistic and quirky trio who’s “No New Friends” music video perfectly reflects their vibe.
Musically the song is traditionally very pop-y with its chord progression, but the tune’s catchy melody and lyrics will have you singing the song all day long. “No New Friends” starts out with an interestingly staccatoed single note piano line that eventually is overpowered and morphed into an underlying electric line for the rest of the song. The staccatoed nature of the song leaves it feeling punchy, spaced out, and percussive. This is especially mirrored in the chorus when Sia sings out a series of “La La Las” leaving listeners with an up tempo, feel good song. Unfortunately, Sia doesn’t particularly show off her typically impressive vocals in the track but listeners shouldn’t feel like they’re missing out on anything as Diplo’s electric contribution to the song is intriguing enough and provides a balance between the vocals and electric music.
The music video is pretty reflective of the upbeat and pop-y nature of “No New Friends.” The video begins with Labrinth in a cotton candy pink robe exploring a vibrant world that looks straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. In this colorful world he stumbles upon an equally radiantly dressed Sia who depicts a friendly giant that picks Labrinth up in her hands. Despite their size difference, together they explore their bright and graphic world, play peek-a-boo in a field of golden fur, and wander their fictional forest together. Eventually the duo runs into Diplo who, after he fittingly depicts a sun, visits Sia and Labrinth as an even bigger giant. The video ends very sweetly with Diplo picking up Sia in his hands while she holds Labrinth in hers.
LSD came together in 2019 when they wrote their hit “Genius.” It was then that the group realized that together, they had the potential to create a number of music hits. After “Genius” they wrote a series of songs including “Audio,” “Thunderclouds,” and “Mountains.” “No New Friends” is the groups fifth song together. LSD will be performing their new track on The Ellen Degeneres Show on April 24th.
