Get ready to rock: Canadian-based punk-rock outfit PUP is going on tour, and will set up shop at Terminal 5 for one night on September 12th. Indie-pop friend Illuminati Hotties will support, definitely making this night one to catch. Prior to the show, tickets will cost you $25 each, with the price going up to $30 if you snag them the day of. The show is available for all ages, and be sure to get there on time – doors open at 7:00pm for an 8:00pm start.
In alignment with traditional punk aesthetic, PUP’s band name is an abbreviation for “Pathetic Use of Potential” – although in my opinion, their sound and success are far from pathetic. Since the re-release of their debut album in 2014, they’ve garnered over half a million monthly listeners and millions of plays on Spotify. Their latest album, Morbid Stuff, features the latest and greatest of their punk-rock goodness. While much of the lyrical material remains fairly emo and melancholy, many tracks will have you listening on repeat because they’ll be stuck in your head – namely “Bare Hands,” “Closure,” and title track “Morbid Stuff.” Whether you need to lament a bad situation or simply need to jam out, PUP provides the perfect soundtrack.
Supporting PUP for this show is Illuminati Hotties, the indie-pop/rock powerhouse solely lead by recording studio native Sarah Tudzin. Tudzin’s latest full-length endeavor, an LP titled Kiss Yr Frenemies, cements herself as a prominent player in the indie space, especially after receiving critical acclaim from the likes of indie outlets Pitchfork, Stereogum and Exclaim!.
Keep your eyes and ears out for both of these acts – and see them live now, so you can say “Yeah, I knew them before they blew up.”
