This spring, Jawbox’s J. Robbins will be branching out on his own with the release of a debut solo album dropping May 31 via Dischord. The record, Un-becoming, is a compilation of Robbins’s sporadic solo ventures between 2015 and 2019. Speaking on the album, Robbins states that it was “written and recorded in brief, intense bursts of activity between 2015 – 2018, as [his] most recent band, Office of Future Plans, was winding to a close.” 11 out of the 12 songs will also feature Peter Moffett of Government Issue on drums, as well as Brooks Harlan and Gordon Withers of Office of Future Plans on bass, and guitar respectively.
Un-becoming Track List:
For now, Robbins has released a new single from his forthcoming solo album titled, “Soldier On.” The track is an overall catchy, punk-ish piece that is reminiscent of the classic ‘90s punk era. Have a listen below.
Robbins’ solo career is one to look out for. The D.C. native has always kept himself busy, being the leader of five bands including Jawbox, Rollkicker Laydown, Office of Future Plans, Burning Airlines, and Channels. He also produces and engineers for acts like Ponytail, Jets to Brazil, Clutch, amongst many others. This year, Robbins and Jawbox announced their reunion tour that will see the band performing live together in more than 20 years. Beginning in June, the band will hit some notable locations like Brooklyn Steel on June 22 and Los Angeles’ The Regent Theater on July 13. They will also be one of the headliners at the FEST 18 festival in Gainesville, Florida.
