The Dio Returns Tour featuring the Ronnie James Dio Hologram is coming to the United States for a Spring and Summer tour. The US tour will feature Dio band members from the past 17 years of the band’s history. The Dio Returns tour will begin on May 31st in Ft. Myers, Florida and is currently set to conclude on June 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada. More tour dates will be determined at a later time.
The line-up for the band currently consists of Craig Goldy on guitar, Simon Wright on drums, Scott Warren on keyboards, and the newest Dio member Bjorn Englen on bass. Most importantly, these musicians will play alongside the hologram of Dio. Additionally, the metal vocalists Tim “Ripper” Owens and Oni Logan will be joining the tour as well. Dio Returns is meant to be a 90 minute celebration of the music compositions by the late heavy metal musician Ronnie James Dio. Tracks that will be played include but are not limited to “Holy Diver”, “King of Rock N’ Roll” and “We Rock.” The performance will take a trip down memory lane by playing works from Ronnie James Dio’s groups like Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and Dio.
Here’s a trailer for the upcoming Dio Returns Tour:
This is not the first Dio Hologram Tour. Back in 2017, Dio’s wife Wendy oversaw the production of the Hologram performances for the first Dio Returns Tour. This first tour played throughout Europe and due to its popularity, Eyeillusion decided to go through a second tour so Americans could get a taste.
Ronnie James Dio has formed and been a member of a number of successful bands including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Heaven & Hell. The singer songwriter and composer’s wide range, raw voice, and numerous hits led him to become a heavy metal legend. His most popular songs include “Rainbow in the Dark,” “Heaven and Hell,” and “Die Young.” Unfortunately, Dio passed away in 2010 due to stomach cancer. Dio left behind a huge legacy and was a pioneer in shaping what we know as heavy metal.
When commenting on the upcoming tour, Drummer Simon Wright stated, “Looking forward to hitting the road with this incredible piece of technology and celebrating Ronnie and his timeless music again with his friends and fans.”
