A new Childish Gambino album could be on its way. Fans have bee speculating that the singer will be releasing a visual album called Guava Island. The album can see its debut at his headlining set at Coachella next weekend, with Spotify advertisements pointing out the album will potentially be released Saturday night, April 13, the night after his set according to Stereogum. The ads feature Glover singing over an acoustic guitar and announcing, “I’ll see you at the show.” The potential visual album serves as the follow up to his Grammy-nominated album Awaken, My Love!
Guava Island was at first rumored to be a movie, which stars Rihanna and Black Panther actress Letitia Wright. The trailer for the film debuted at Glover’s PHAROS festival in New Zealand this past November. It is directed by longtime collaborator Hiro Murai and was shot in Cuba last summer. Murai has directed a few episodes of Glover’s critically acclaimed television show Atlanta, and the music video the Grammy Award-winning single “This is America.” It won both Record and Song of the Year, making it the first hip-hop song to win both categories.
He will also be hitting the festival circuit this year including headlining sets at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, Montreal’s Osheaga, San Francisco’s Outside Lands, and Bonnaroo.
