The fourth addition to the Electric Funeral Fest will take off in Denver, Colorado on June 14th and will end on June 15th. The rock and metal festival finally released their lineup for the 2019 event and its filled with some of the best psychedelic metal/rock bands of today. Headliners include Torche, and Thou along with other bands like Dead Meadow, Tombs, and Acid Witch.
The Electric Funeral Fest IV will take place on South Broadway and will have three stages at three different venues. This includes the 3 Kings Tavern, Hi Dive, and Mutiny Information Cafe. Funeral Fest wants to support the independent rock clubs of Denver and the venues will be intimate as there is a small amount of space in each club. Additionally, because the venue takes place on a busy Denver street there will be opportunities to go grab a bite to eat, hit up a bar, and gather with other fans during the event.
The metal band Torche is one of Funeral Fest’s main headliners. Torche consists of Steve Brooks on vocals and guitar, Jonathon Nuñez on guitar and bass, Rick Smith on drums, and Eric Hernandez on bass. Known for their repetitive guitar rhythms and steady drumming, from early on Torche found their sound and stuck with it. This not only makes the band’s sound highly recognizable, but classically unique as well. The band formed back in 2004 in Miami, Florida and since then they’ve released four studio albums including Torche, Meanderthal, Harmonicraft, and Restarter. Torche was also featured on the network Adult Swim’s compilation album Metal Swim with their song “Arrowhead.”
Headlining with Torche will be the Louisiana sludge metal band Thou. Compared with Torche, Thou takes on a much darker and intense sound. In songs like “The Changeling Prince” strong and complex guitar chords ring out while the drums hit hard and accompany their common thematic lyrics of doom. Thou includes Bryan Funck on vocals, Andy Gibbs on guitar, Matthew Thudium on guitar, Mitch Wells on bass, Tyler Coburn on drums, and KC Stafford on guitar, bass, and vocals. Most recently, the band was featured on a Black Sabbath tribute album by Magnetic Eye Recordings.
Along with Torche and Thou will be the psychedelic stoner rock Dead Meadow. Most recently the band released their album The Nothing They Need back in March of of 2018. The group also played at Desertfest Belgium in October 2018.
The festival should be one for the books. Dust Presents commented on the festival by saying, “The fourth installment of ELECTRIC FUNERAL FEST IV will be even more monumental than last year’s sold out event. We value the intimacy of our hallmark festival, as it is held in mainstay, independent Denver rock clubs with very limited capacities. With a lineup that continues to diversify and grow in strength, ELECTRIC FUNERAL FEST will once again set South Broadway ablaze…”
