Modest Mouse announced they are participating in Record Store Day on April 13 with an exclusive triangle 7″ featuring their first new music in over four years. The release includes A-side “Poison The Well” and a bonus for fans, the B-side, “I’m Still Here”. The band is most known for popular hits, “Float On” and “Ocean Breathes Salty” both songs released years ago.
Modest Mouse and The Black Keys will tour the U.S. and Canada starting September 23 in Denver, Colorado. The band has released albums, Strangers To Ourselves, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About and The Lonesome Crowded West. Modest Mouse’s current lineup includes Brock, Jeremiah Green, Tom Peloso, Jim Fairchild, Russell Higbee, Lisa Molinaro, Ben Massarella and Davey Brozowski.
The 1997 album, The Lonesome Crowded West (recorded at Moon Studios, by Scott Swayze) served as the band’s breakthrough. The Lonesome Crowded West gained the band a cult following, and is now popularly considered to be one of the defining albums of mid-1990’s indie rock. The band also sells great merchandise from their website.
The name Modest Mouse is derived from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story “The Mark on the Wall”, which reads, “I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises.”
During his teenage years Brock worked at a local family video store outside Seattle when he met bassist Eric Judy. Brock and Judy met drummer Jeremiah Green at a heavy metal show when they decided to make music together. In 1994, at Calvin Johnson’s Dub Narcotic Studios, Modest Mouse recorded its first EP, Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, which was released by K Records.
