Avail Announce First Show In 11 Years to Celebrate 21st Anniversary of Over the James

This week, punk rock icons Avail announced their first live show in more than a decade. Having last performed together in 2007, the band from Richmond, Virginia will be taking the stage to celebrate the 21-year anniversary of Over the James, their fourth studio album.

According to Pitchfork, at their reunion, Avail will be supported by crossover thrash supergroup Iron Reagan and Asylum, who are both also from Richmond. The celebration will take place on July 19, at Richmond’s The National theatre. Tickets go on sale March 29, and can be purchased here.

Avail consists of Time Barry, Joe Banks, Erik Larson, Gwomper, and Beau Butler. Since their formation in 1988, the band has put forth 6 total full-length albums and several EPs. The band was at the forefront of the punk revolution of the 1990s and 2000s, and were pivotal in pushing the Richmond punk rock scene foreward. Although they never officially separated, Avail have not released any new music since their 2002 album Front Porch Stories. Let’s all hope that this reunion sparks more activity from the punk rock greats.
