Fifteen years after the initial release of Silent Alarm, English rock band Bloc Party will be commemorating their album by going on tour in the US and performing Silent Alarm in full. Recently, the band announced their tour dates and they will be visiting major cities in the US including Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
When Silent Alarm was released in 2004 it was critically acclaimed and reached widespread commercial success as the album went multi-platinum across the world. The album received a Mercury Prize nomination when it was first released and raised the band to prominence in the musical world.
Silent Alarm adapted the meaning of indie rock and was revolutionary for its time. Popular songs off the album include “Helicopter”, “Banquet”, and “Like Eating Glass.” The tracks on the album consistently display amazing, technical, and emphasized drumming, along with interesting bass lines, and complicated guitar riffs. It’s a fast paced listen that will get virtually any person amped up. Lyrically, the album displays interesting themes. Many have characterized lyrics off the album as confessional poetry; a fitting description for such honest songs. These factors combined make the album an incredibly exciting one to listen to and it’s impossible to not notice something new with every listen of the album.
Bloc Party consists of Kele Okereke on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboard, and sampler, Russel Lissack on lead guitar and keyboards, Justin Harris on bass guitar, keyboard, and saxophone, and Louise Bartle on drum set and percussion. Bloc Party formed in the UK in 2000 and released their debut single “She’s Hearing Voices” in 2004. After Silent Alarm Bloc Party released their second album A Weekend in the City in 2007. The album was very successful and reached number 2 on the UK album charts.
