It’s been four years since the world saw MARINA, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, in the spotlight with the release of her 2015 album FROOT. Since then, this dazzling popstar embarked on a journey of self-discovery, hence the new stage name, and curated that process in a double album of new music entitled LOVE+FEAR, set for an April 26th release. MARINA has recently released the leading single for the album entitled “Orange Trees,” with an accompanying music video.
“Orange Trees” is in the running for being the song of summer, from the synth sounds when she sings “Orange” to the feel-good lyrics of being able to relax and soak in the beauty of nature. “I wrote “Orange Trees” about the island that my family and I are from in Greece. It’s called Lefkada and it’s my favorite place in the world… I always feel at peace there,” said MARINA when describing the inspiration for the track. “It’s like my body and biology recognizes I’m back home.
And this is exemplified in the music video, shot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the songstress can be seen dancing on the beach with her friends and exploring stunning vistas with blooming flora. The video was shot and directed by Grammy Award-winning music video director Sophie Muller, while the song was produced by Oscar Gorres from Wolf Cousins productions.
The new track follows previous promotional singles “Superstar,” “Handmade Heaven” and Baby” for the new album out under Atlantic Records. Each track so far has given the listener insight to the LOVE portion of the album, but fans have yet to have a sneak peek of the FEAR half.
For now, fans will just have to wait until she chooses to release or not release further snippets of the forthcoming project. Check out and listen to the new track “Orange Trees” below.
