The Brighton-based electronica band Fujiya & Miyagi have just announced the release of their forthcoming LP, Flashback. The new record will be available on May 29th under the Red Eye record label. On top of this announcement, the band has released the album title track and leading single for the album.
The album finds itself taking inspiration and engaging with the dynamic music of their youth and connecting it to their refined musical abilities as adults. And the lead single captures that feeling of one’s favorite songs and bands during their adolescents years.
Taking inspiration from electro music and the art of breakdancing to the power of one’s memories and back-up vocals, this new track is full of experimental and juvenile tunes. The whole track is confined in a hushed tone and hypnotizes the reader with the lyric “flashback” being constantly repeated throughout the course of its run. It’s hard for the listeners to not be consumed and engaged with the lyrical and musical components of the song.
In a statement to Consequence of Sound, the band described the new song as “a postcard sent to our younger selves.” They continued on by saying, “It joins our first discoveries of different music and different cultures with every new discovery we’ve found since then and bounces back to the beginning again.”
