Irish indie folk singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson, more widely known by her stage name SOAK, just released a new music video for “Déjà vu”, the lead single off of her forthcoming sophomore album, Grim Town. Directed by Brother Willis, the video features David Lynch-inspired loopiness, in which SOAK portrays two separate roles in “dreamlike messiness.”
In the music video, Monds-Watson’s character is seen to be both a performer on stage and a member of the audience watching others. The two scenes go back and forth and are complemented by nostalgic and retro videography. Willis does a great job in evoking a sense of Déjà vu that is befitting of the song’s title and lyrics.
Grim Town is slated for an April 26 release via Rough Trade Records that follows SOAK’s widely-acclaimed debut album Before We Forgot How To Dream. The 22 year old rising star has described her latest project to be a “dystopia” that she had formulated in her brain and “processed into a pretend location.” The record will truly be one that fans can lose themselves in while exploring SOAK’s projection of her “mental state as a personality.”
For Christmas last year, Derry, Ireland singer released her own rendition of Chris Rea’s “Driving Home For Christmas.” She is currently on a huge tour promoting her latest music and will be hitting parts of the United Kingdom starting May 3 in Liverpool. She will then make stops in Belgium, Netherland, and Germany, before touring major parts of the United States. Her tour ends on June 21, in Brooklyn, New York.
