Indie rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen have released a new single and accompanying music video for the track “2All,” which displays the Welsh rockers travelling across the British Coast. This new single will be released off the band’s forthcoming album The Balance, which will be released on April 26 off Capitol Records.
The music video, directed by long-time collaborator Jim Canty, shows the band driving a vintage 1956 Land Rover, across the city of South Shields, showing the regions weather beat beaches and clifftops. During the end of the video, the band jumps our of the car and host a live performance in the seaside town’s landmark Amphitheatre arcades.
The Balance is set to be the band’s third album overall, following up from the band’s 2016 release The Ride, which landed the band their first number one hit album in the UK. Earlier this year the band released an upbeat track entitled “Fluctuate,” as the second release off of the upcoming project.
A month prior the band released their first music video and single for the project entitled “Longshot.” This announcement was made alongside their current headlining tour announcement for the band, which saw them perform across 15 shows across the entire United States.
Despite their first album release being in 2014, the band quickly attracted a strong following for their indie rock style, which drew heavily from UK post-punk acts and garage rock acts. This has lead to multiple tours around the world from Europe, the US and even South America throughout the years.
“To have that amount of people behind us already after two years, internationally, it’s real motivating,” the band’s frontman Van McCann explained in an interview with Billboard .”We didn’t need any [motivation] anyway, but it just makes you more excited and makes you want to release stuff every six months.”
The group originally spent their early years as “The Prestige” playing at the home of a member’s parents, who owned a local Bed and Breakfast spot in Llandudno, Wales. After eventually getting some early demo’s played on BBC Radio 6, they eventually were able to release The Balcony off famed UK indie label Island in 2014.
“It’s all very humbling (the amount of fans). We’ve always dreamt this since we were kids, before we could even play the guitar, and to now get to this point — in August it will be 10 years for us as a band — it’s nice to see this all pay off,” McCann further elaborated in the interview. “We still love what we do and we still have that hunger to keep growing it.”
Their peculiar name also happened to originate during the band’s earliest years with McCann stating that it represented his earliest musical memory. The name refers to a man playing off a home-made drumkit which utilized a washing line and bottles.
“I remember being plodded outside a cafe, watching this guy,” Van recalled. “He had a washing line with bottles hanging off it and he used to play it like a drum kit. He was called Catfish The Bottle Man.
