Irish rock band The Cranberries have released a new single, “Wake Me When It’s Over.” The song is part of the quartet’s final album together, as they will be parting ways after lead singer Dolores O’Riodan’s passing in 2018.
“Wake Me When It’s Over” features O’Riodan’s massive and distinctly haunting vocals accompanied that is displayed through a simple yet powerful chorus line that she repeatedly emphasizes. Listen to the single below, which guitarist Noel Hogan describes to be “bring and quite uplifting” and an overall “fun song to play”.
According to the band, the band’s latest single was something O’Riodan “had been working on for a little while” and was previously recorded as a demo before her passing. The remaining three members, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan, and Fergal Lawler, had worked with producer Stephen Street to construct the sound around O’Riodan’s classic vocals. The result is a timeless Cranberries track that will add to O’Riodan’s legacy moving forward.
In January 2018, O’Riodan passed away tragically while she was on a short recording trip in London, United Kingdom and information of her death was only released more than year later. Their upcoming album, In The End, will be the Limerick band’s final one, as they say goodbye to more than 20 years of making powerful rock music. In The End is slated for an April 2019 release and will undoubtedly be an emotional send off for both O’Riodan and the band, as it sees the band “coming full circle”, being a collection that “evokes their very first LP.”
