The Beta Machine, led by bassist, vocalist and keyboardist Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl, and featuring vocalist Claire Acey and guitarist/keyboardist Nicholas Perez, are releasing their global debut full-length album via T-Boy Records and Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), Intruder.
This is not the first time for the two founders of The Beta Machine, Matt McJunkins and Jeff Friedl, to collaborate. The duo is also known as members of American rock band A Perfect Circle and being contributors to the related Puscifer (rock supergroup formed by Maynard James Keenan) and Ashes Divide projects (a side project with Billy Howerdel), they also paired up in Eagles of Death Metal. Juggling from groups to groups for years, the “musician’s musicians” decided to start their own rock and roll journey bringing two special lineup, Claire Acey (of Nightmare of the Cat) and Nicholas Perez.
The band established itself as a forward-thinking rock band with the 2017 release of an EP titled All This Time with four tracks including, “Embers,” “Bones,” “Palindrome,” and “All This Time.” Click here to support the music. As futuristic as the name The Beta Machine, the previous teaser set a futuristic tone with synthetic sounds of their music style. Now Intruder is more like a keynote for all the long-awaited listeners which comes out on March 29.
To celebrate the debut album, the band will shortly be on the road. Headlining in A Perfect Circle’s recent arena tour, the band was also their opener. Most importantly, they’ll act as the leading role in their own 2019 tour mapping out from North America and Europe.
When it comes to the original intention of the group, as McJunkins mentioned, this is an opportunity to “exist outside of a bubble” and avoid to “get pigeonholed pretty easily into being known for one thing”. He also expressed that, “we’re trying to create a wide range, so we don’t fall into those traps.” Friedl also amplified his pure intention of bringing more and more people to join their music and have fun with them: “It’s such a new project. The world is our oyster,” “We’re hoping that at the end of the day, we have a pretty vast, varied fanbase full of people who appreciate all the vibes we put on the record.”
