Arthur Brown Issues Statement After “Fire” Used in New Zealand Massacre, Cancels Austin Waterloo Records Show

Communities across the globe are paying their respects for those who died in terrorist attacks on Friday, March 15, in Christchurch, New Zealand. Arthur Brown the famous English rocker issued a statement after learning his song, “Fire” was played during the horrifying New Zealand massacre. The statement is titled, “Message from the Heart” and is posted on his Facebook page in response to the tragedy.

Brown responded to the tragedy by canceling his show in Austin when he learned his lyrics for “Fire” were used during the terrorist attack. The tragedy was monstrous with over fifty people killed and fifty others wounded in the attack, New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush announced Sunday.

Brown’s Facebook statement includes the following message: “As co-writer and performer of the song “Fire”, and creator of “The God of Hellfire’ persona, I would like to express my horror and sadness in the use of ‘Fire’, in an act of terror in New Zealand. My heart goes out to all the victims and families of victims of this atrocity – and to all the communities affected. I should like to say that I support no group or individual that uses terrorist tactics and killing as a means of dealing with other beliefs than their own. I believe that all religions reach for the same root in the human being. I believe all people of all colours and all races deserve equal respect. I also believe that all people have a duty of care towards each other and all creatures on this earth.”

“*OUT OF RESPECT for the victims of this horrifying act in New Zealand and following the advice of respected local authorities, I have decided to CANCEL the ‘instore’ performance at WATERLOO RECORDS in AUSTIN tomorrow.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called it one of the country’s “darkest days” after dozens were killed at two mosques. Other world leaders are joining Ardern in condemning the attacks and offering their condolences to the victims’ families.

Fans have responded to the artist by posting comments on his page. One fan writes, “Your music and your legacy is about life and creativity, not death and horror.” Another fan comments, “So sorry this has happened, my heart bleeds for the innocent victims. Love will always win over hate.”

Brown is a 77 year old English rocker known for his flamboyant theatrical performances and his powerful, wide-ranging operatic voice. He is considered to be a pioneer of shock rock and progressive rock and has had an influence on heavy metal music.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
