Doeman, Young Costa @ SXSW 3/16

Austin is known for being the Live Music Capital of the World, but what does that even mean?  Back in the 90s, the name was awarded after it was discovered that Austin had the most live music venues per capita than any other city in the entire nation – whether that remains true today is unchecked, but the name still holds. Either way Austin has become an unparalleled environment for musicians and music fanatics alike, attracting two Southeast Houston rappers – Young Costa and Doeman.

Playing SXSW as an official artist for the fifth year in a row, Joseph “Doeman” Gonzales has been hustling in Austin for years now – performing nine shows as an unofficial artist in 2014, before landing a spot on the world famous SXSW lineup. Never not working, Doeman already has five albums on Spotify, and has most recently released his 4015 Lamar EP on Apple Music. If gangsta rap is your sub-genre,  Doeman’s music is set to please. In an era of mumbly SoundCloud rappers, Doeman actually has something to say with some fire lyrics. Not short of talent, Doeman is known for dynamic showcases and a dark style reminiscent of Eazy-E and Biggie. It’s obvious Doeman is a trailblazer, pushing the boundaries of the hip hop genre and paving a path for fellow artists.

Newer to the game putting out his first EP Birth in 2016, Young Costa, also known as Cristian Acosta, provides concert goers with a much slower, chiller hip-hop vibe with hints of R&B. Young Costa’s sound is also unique for this era of emerging hip-hop music. With hooks that jam and captivating bars, Young Costa has a sick sound not to miss at South By.

Both Young Costa & Doeman represent Southeast Houston, but also represent Austin’s unique appeal when it comes to musicians trying to move up the ranks. Traveling three hours, there’s no doubt the two rappers will put on respectable sets. You can catch both of them this weekend. Doeman hits the stage Friday, March 15th, and Young Costa will perform on Saturday, March 16th.
