The Queercore revolutionaries, Team Dresch, announced a 25th Anniversary full catalogue reissue. This includes their first albums Personal Best and Captain My Captain and additional singles compilation that will come out May 31.
Team Dresch formed in Portland, Oregon in 1993. The original group was comprised of bassist Donna Dresch, singer and guitarist Jody Bleyle, singer and guitarist Kaia Wilson and drummer Scott Plouf. Team Dresch is known for their significant impression on the DIY punk movement, queercore in addition to the independent music scene. Their first single, “Hand Grenade” came out in 1994. Personal Best came after in 1995 and featured a fusion of punk-pop energy and lesbian empowerment. Captain My Captain came out a year later in 1996.
This reissue of Team Dresch is bringing back the iconic angst of the ‘90s with the premier of their video for “Fagetarian and Dyke” out now on Pitchfork. The footage includes glimpses of crowds without cellphones and serves as a memory from the depths of the queer core revolution. Team Dresch is known for their sheer force displayed through screeching guitars and wailing cries for inclusivity and acceptance of all genders and sexualities.
On the topic of the reissue, the band states, “Just when you thought life couldn’t possibly get any gayer, Team Dresch is back to dance this Queercore mess around and talk about the climate crisis in between drop-D grunge licks! Why? Because we’re alive and want to be with our people.”
Team Dresch fans can get excited for this reissue and restatement of the queercore movement.
