89.3 The Current in Minneapolis/ St. Paul began their broadcast in 2005. The Current started as a non-commercial, member-supported radio station however it has grown in members and listeners from around the world. The station aims to bring listeners the “best authentic new music alongside the music that inspired it.”
The Current has taken it’s station on the road coming to Austin for SXSW and will make the trip back to Austin for SXSW 2019 when they set up shop at Barracuda for The Current Day Party on Friday March 15th, where they’ll have 11 artists on two stages including Andrew Bird, Cherry Glazerr, The Nude Party, Sam Fender, Yola and more.
Indie artist Andrew Bird has been making music for more than 20 years when he first recorded his solo album in 1996 and doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon since he released his new single of 2019 with “Sisyphus.” Bird’s sound has grown over years from his early days of fusing the sounds of jazz, folk, blues to pop to composing a score for the independent film Norman to now a more centric folk sound. However, Bird has distinguished himself from other folk singers by showing his fans and anyone listening to him for the first time the power of his whistle, which plays a major part in his new single. Andrew Bird will more than likely show off his whispering super power when he takes the stage at The Current’s Day Party.
If you’re looking for a little nudity with your dose of live music when The Nude Party hits the stage at The Current Day Party, unfortunetly I have to tell you that the band will be more than likely be clothed. Although it is Austin so if The Nude Party gets naked or starts naked it won’t be a cheap thrill as they got their name by practicing naked. They were given the name The Naked Party Band, but changed it to The Nude Party adopting the sounds of 60’s frat rock first playing at house parties then to local clubs and bars (where they had to play with their clothes on. After a couple of years of playing they met Black Lips’ drummer Oakley Munson who took an interest in the band and helped them record a collection a tracks named Hot Tub. After releasing Hot Tub they relocated to Munson’s basement where they recorded their self-titled album The Nude Party. The Nude Party’s album is still celebrating the 60’s with their good vibe tracks which SXSW is all about. The Nude Party will bring those vibes to The Current Day Party and maybe some nudity (but don’t quote me).
