SXSW has begun to announce the performers for the Outdoor Stage at its upcoming conference. The SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake is the largest event of SXSW and draws around 50,000 attendees annually. The event is also notable because it is open to the public with a free SXSW Guest Pass. This year the event will take place from March 14-16, with the lineup for March 16 just being released. The acts include renowned singer/songwriters Patty Griffin and Andrew Bird. Also performing will be guitarist extraordinaire William Tyler and the soft-voiced Courtney Marie Andrews.
Patty Griffin has been releasing music for over 20 years and has shown no signs of stopping. Her most recent single, “Hourlgass,” being released just last week. Griffin is gearing up to release her next album, a self titled project. Prior to “Hourglass,” Griffin recently released “Where I Come From” as the first single from the album. Patty Griffin will be the singer’s 10th studio album, a homage to her growth over the years. Her performance will end out the night and the event; it will be one that fans of her music new and old will not want to miss.
Andrew Bird, set to perform directly before Griffin, is a soft pop artist whose music is driven by his violin. The singer recently released the single “Sisyphus,” as the first track from his upcoming My Finest Work Yet album. Bird has been consistently releasing musical projects since the 1990s, repeatedly proving his skill as an artist. Any fans of light pop and indie music would enjoy his soothing sound.
Also performing is William Tyler, a musician known for his incredible skills with a guitar. Tyler released his newest solo album, Goes West, earlier this year. The album was preceded by two singles, one of which being the upbeat “Fail Safe.” The album is one of Tyler’s best projects so far, with the performing having released several solo albums over the past decade. His beautiful guitar-centered tracks will be sure to impress audiences at SXSW.
Another performer set to perform is singer Courtney Marie Andrews. Andrews, who has been making music since her early teens, began her career in earnest around 10 years ago with the release of her first full album. Since then, Andrews has released a series of albums; the most recent of which being 2018s May Your Kindness Remain. The album was supported by the title track, “May Your Kindness Remain,” along with the singles “I’ve Hurt Worse” and “Kindness of Strangers.” The album is a slow and somber project, full of Andrews’ signature country influences. She will round out the list of performers for the SXSW Outdoor Stage this upcoming March. Fans of SXSW are hoping there will not be another tragic weather disaster during the event; as a thunderstorm lead to a cancellation of the Outdoor Stage back in 2016. Forbidding another weather emergency, the upcoming SXSW Outdoor Stage performances seem as they will be some of SXSW’s best yet.
