Experimental rock and dub band, Dub Trio, have announced shared a single for their upcoming album The Shape of Dub To Come. The name of the project comes as a homage to the album The Shape of Punk To Come by The Refused. The new track, titled “World of Inconvenience,” is a 6 minute journey into the sound of the group’s upcoming fifth studio album. The song features vocal accompaniment from King Buzzo, who adds another layer to the group’s dark and chaotic sound. Alongside the song itself, the group also released a music video for “World Of Inconvenience” this morning. As of now, The Shape of Dub To Come is set to be released on April 26.
“World of Inconvenience” is the opener for Dub Trio’s latest musical project, an album which will see the group exploring a darker and grungier sound than ever before. The Shape of Dub To Come is going to be Dub Trio’s first album since 2011s IV, and will showcase the growth that all three members of the group have gone through over the past eight years. The upcoming album will take a more ominous tone than many of the group’s past works, being even more reliant on strong grunge-metal guitar riffs than their previous music. In the time in between the release of IV and The Shape of Dub To Come, the group toured extensively before announcing a hiatus back in 2015. After a two year break the group began touring again in 2017, but had not gotten back to releasing new music until now.
The music video accompanying “World of Inconvenience” is as dark and gritty as the song itself, depicting the band performing in an abandoned building in full darkness outside of spotlights on the musicians themselves. The video blends together different images of the group in a way that gets more psychedelic as the track goes on. By the end of the song, the video is almost completely distorted and practically melts away. The creation of the video was headed by the director, visual artist Wombat Fire. The first shows for Dub Trio following the release of The Shape of Dub To Come were also announced today, with a series of shows in May. There are eight shows total, taking the group across the East Coast. The full list of tour dates, the album tracklist and the music video for “World of Inconvenience” can all be found here.
