Lonely Island, Grammy nominated and Emmy award-winning trio, announced its first ever tour to happen this summer. The multi-city tour will kick off June 15 at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee and continue on seven additional stops throughout the summer in the U.S. The tour will conclude June 29 in Minneapolis.
This tour sparked from the momentum of the trio’s first live concert at Clusterfest in San Francisco last year. The group received rave reviews among their headline performance with special appearances from Michael Bolton, T-Pain and Chris Parnell. The San Francisco Chronicle commented on the performance, “Many of the best moments of the night can’t be described easily, either because of the boundary-pushing adult content, or the creative stage work.”
Lonely Island is made up of three Saturday Night Live writers: Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. They are originally known for their series of “digital shorts” that aired on the show and have since gained popularity as they successfully jumped to the big screen with the film Hot Rod. They also joined Tegan and Sara for the theme song of the Lego Movie, “Everything is Awesome” which they performed during the 87th Oscars. Then in 2016 they wrote directed, starred in and released the rockumentary film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The New York times credits the group with helping usher in the digital era at Saturday Night Live. Since 2006, they have hit almost 7 million subscribers on YouTube and over 2.3 billion views on their channel. Most recently, Lonely Island teamed up with Beck and Robyn for “Super Cool,” the number one film The Lego Movie 2.
Tickets for the tour go on sale to the public Friday, March 1, and 10 AM. You can buy tickets at LiveNational.com.
