Amy Winehouse Hologram Tour Put “On Hold” by BASE Hologram

Last October, the Winehouse family and BASE Hologram announced a hologram tour that would bring Amy Winehouse back to the stage via some state of the art technology. Unfortunately, tour hopefuls will have to wait it out, as the project’s developments have been reported by BASE to be put “on hold.” The Amy Winehouse hologram tour was initially set for a 2019 schedule.

According to Pitchfork, BASE Hologram, the tour’s developers, released a statement saying that the delay is due to “unique challenges and sensitivities.” Additionally, BASE CEO Brian Becker also released another statement, which states,

Sometimes in developing this type of highly ambitious, state of the art hologram/augmented reality theatrical event we encounter some unique challenges and sensitivities that cause us to take a step back. Developing our productions is a cross between a Broadway show and a concert spectacle which requires creative engineering and that type of creativity does not necessarily follow a schedule. And that’s what happened with Amy Winehouse, we promised to celebrate her life in the most respectful way possible—as we did with Roy Orbison and Maria Callas—and to ensure we keep that promise we are putting the tour on hold while we plot out a creatively spectacular production fitting of her remarkable career.

In short, the complications are due to the show’s complexed nature which requires some high-leveled engineering in order to produce a spectacular concert for fans. Producers of the tour want to ensure that production will do a great job of reflecting Winehouse’s decorated career, with live bands and singers set to support the technologically-based tour.

Winehouse tragically passed away in 2011 at the young age of 27. Plans by her family to reproduce her life’s works had started as early as 2017, with finalization for the hologram tour being announced late last year. Last February, London producer Gil Cang, shared an unreleased song demo by Winehouse that was from very early on in her career. Listen to the rare track titled, “My Own Way.”
