Spellling Pays Homage to 70s Avant-Garde In New Video “Under The Sun”

SPELLLING releases “Under the Sun” a trippy new song and video which shows Cabral in the most creative and unique fashion. SPELLLING is the project of Bay-area based Chrystia Cabral. The new song, “Under the Sun,” is a track off  her forthcoming album, Mazy Fly set to release February 22 via Sacred Bones.

The video is shot by filmmaker Catalina Xavlena and features Cabral dancing solo, donning a black and white outfit. The scene changes taking the viewer on a kaleidoscope of interesting visuals, all set against a scenic backdrop. At one point she is seated on a horse as the instrumental background weaves in and out. The artistic emphasis with Cabral emerges as various movements, colorful escapades and sizes.

Cabral comments, “‘Under the Sun’ is a cosmic prayer for good fortune. This epic track celebrates the invisible energies that come together over time to create something radically new, like the birth of a star.” One fan describes the song, “My body and soul are ready! Bring me this album!” and another responds with, “This is a pop goddess for the netherworld.”

Mazy Fly is SPELLLING’s second full-length and first for Sacred Bones, following Pantheon of Me released in September 2017. In a press release, the artist is reported to have spent the spending time at her Berkeley studio “reflecting on human progress and longing for a new and better tomorrow. She was struck by the way the same technologies have simultaneously given humans the ability to achieve utopian dreams of discovery and have brought on dystopic global devastation.” Fans can pre-order the new album.

In 2015, SPELLLING began experimenting with music production in an effort to carry on the creative legacy of a lost loved one. Drawing heavily from messages in her dreams, her sound spirals through clarity and obscurity searching through landscapes of psychic space. The result is a divine soul music, soft in its restraint but heavy with passion. SPELLLING’s powerful vocal range dances over compositions that vary from rhythmic and ethereal to crunchy and hypnotic, while all remaining singularly cohesive to her distinct and enveloping sound.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
