The indie-rock and country sweetheart Jenny Lewis took apart the beloved Valentine’s Day for all its joy in celebrating love with those closest to you and turned it into a song about a tragic love affair in her new track “Heads Gonna Roll.” This is the second single she’s released off her upcoming studio album, On the Line due for a March 22 release.
Lewis opens up with lyrics painting a picture of a person she’s decided to keep in the friend zone, but will always be loved in more ways than one “Since I haven’t talked to you/ I dream about your baby blues and/ Wonder why you stopped getting high/ Even though we were just friends/ I think of us as bookends/ And I’m gonna love you till I die.”
As the listener approaches the chorus, Lewis gets real with her fans and tells them where we’re all going to end up. “Oh, heads gonna roll baby/ Everybody’s gotta pay that toll and maybe/ After all is said and done/ We’ll all be skulls.” A dreamy tune is sung over acoustic guitar and piano.
This is the second track of Jenny’s to release for her forthcoming album. The lead single “Red Bull & Hennessy” received critical acclaim from many music outlets such as the Rolling Stone and Consequence of Sound. A song that tackled the complexities of a listener’s deep emotions.
