Foals Shares New Song “On The Luna”

The Oxford indie-rock band Foals have just revealed “On The Luna,” the second track off their upcoming full-length studio album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1. To accommodate the new track, the band also released an official music video.

The music video is layered on with a film filter and presents itself as an observational, documentary piece. The documentary-style piece incorporates the pumped-up energy of their live shows and crowds with a twist of intimate, behind-the-scenes clips from their “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost” sessions. The lyrics itself tell the listener this song is fully based on the nostalgia of the band’s personal lives. Frontman Yannis Philippakis sings the lyrics “When I was a latchkey kid on the Luna/A free-from-guilt born Babyboomer/Can’t you pick me up a little sooner?/I’ve been waiting all day, all day.” The footage for the film was compiled from Kit Monteith and Alex Knowles, with the editing of the video coming from Michael Sherrington.

The first track “Exits” was also accompanied with a music video following its release. In it, the video features Games of Thrones actor Isaac Hempstead-Wright and establishes themes of fear and isolation, something that will encompass the band’s upcoming projects. There’s a definite idea about the world being no longer habitable in the way that it was,” said Philippakis in a statement according to Paste Magazine. “A kind of perilousness lack of predictability and a feeling of being overwhelmed by the magnitudes of the problems we face. What’s the response? And what’s the purpose of any response that one individual can have?”

These two new tracks are all apart of the bands forthcoming two-part conceptual album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 & 2. The first part of the album will be released on March 8, while the second part is expected for a fall release.
