Trae Malone and Chris Wolford are a new hip-hop duo out of Los Angeles known as ENDS. The duo have spent a great deal of time in the area’s punk and hardcore scenes and that experience translates through to their latest single, “Noho.” Today, we’re excited to premiere the new video for that song, a gritty and grimy but still-accessible alternative hip-hop cut called “Noho.” Their self-titled EP came out in February on Dune Altar – including 50 pressed on limited edition clear vinyl, which can be pre-ordered here.
The beat is minimalist with a touch of industrial flare, giving Malone a dissonant template to drop his bars over. The video features scenes of the MC walking around different parts of Los Angeles, including a colorful scene in an alley of what looks like Downtown Los Angeles’ one-of-a-kind (in America) Pinata District. This footage of him touring LA is spliced with footage of a mosh pit, which perfectly describes the aesthetic of ENDS. The video ends with the duo on a rooftop and Downtown Los Angeles’ skyline in the background to the south. The video was directed by Wolford, who’s co-founder of Los Angeles-based art collective/brand, Dethkills.
“Last year I set out to tackle a long time goal of creating a hip-hop-influenced passion project with good friends,” said Malone. “The day has finally arrived for me to share our music video, Chris and Nick Miz curated for this project ENDS. The main inspiration for this project was to tell a story about growing up in Los Angeles in the 1990s. I dedicate this EP to my daughter Rhyan Maree and longtime acquaintance Bobby Alderman.”
