Kvelertak Reveal Plans to Release First Album with New Singer Ivar Nikolaisen in 2019

Kvelertak the Norwegian heavy metal band plans to release a new album in 2019, according to guitarist Vidar Landa. That album will be the group’s first with frontman Ivar Nikolaisen, who replaced Erlend Hjelvik last year. In an interview, Vidar laughs, “Yes, the new Kvelertak album will be coming this year. We’ve never rushed things. It’s always been a couple of years between our albums and when it’s done it’s done.”

The band includes vocalist Ivar Nikolaisen, guitarists Vidar Landa, Bjarte Lund Rolland and Maciek Ofstad, bassist Marvin Nygaard and drummer Kjetil Gjermundrød. Founding member and lead singer Erlend Hjelvik left the group in 2018, being replaced by Ivar Nikolaisen. Kvelertak have Norwegian lyrics and their main influences are rock and roll, black metal and punk rock.

When it comes to discussing ideas for the new album, Vidar admits, “Right now, it’s kind of hard to explain the new material but we are working on the new album and have written a lot of stuff so far. The way it looks now, I guess we are working with things that we felt worked really well for us on ‘Nattesferd‘ and stuff from the other albums that really clicked with us collectively.”

The bassist Marvin Nygaard admits that most of the material and foundation of the tracks is done by Bjarte. Although the band comes to the table collectively with their ideas to formulate material. Looking back on their work, the band put out a self-titled debut album in 2010 and second album, Meir, was released in March 2013. The band’s third studio album, titled Nattesferd, was released on May 13, 2016.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
