Rock musician Devin Townsend has announced his new backing band for his upcoming European and UK tour. After the dissolution of Townsend’s previous band, Devin Townsend Project, it was unclear who exactly the performer would be touring with for his upcoming shows. Now the mystery has been solved, as Townsend has announced that his backing band for the tour will shift and morph based on each individual show. This meaning that Townsend wants to adapt what he is doing at each show to make each night a unique experience for fans. In a statement given on the subject, Townsend remarked that he wanted to “incorporate a more improvisational element into what I do.”
Devin Townsend has had a highly successful career in music, and his upcoming Empath record is the next chapter in the performers journey. After his time working with the Devin Townsend Project, the musician decided to disband the group and look towards the future. After doing so, Townsend ended up creating his upcoming Empath album, which he hopes will be one of his most ambitious and musically adept projects in a long time. Viewing Empath and the upcoming Empath Europe – Volume 1 Tour as the next step in his career. The Empath album is set to release at the end of March. Leading up to the release of the album, Townsend is creating a series of small podcasts to explain his thinking and reasoning behind his choices in creating Empath.
Townsend’s European tour will begin at the end of 2019, with the first dates beginning in the middle of November. A majority of the shows will take place on the European mainland, but there will be a UK leg at the end of the tour. Prior to this, Townsend will be conducting a primarily acoustic tour throughout the Spring. This tour will see Townsend performing much of his older work, along with answering questions in a Q&A type session with the audience after his sets. The musician has an incredibly full year ahead of him, but it seems that it will be just as successful as it is busy.
