Another week, another announcement of bands playing SXSW’s music festival this March. This announcement features another 100 artists being announced for the festival. This announcement is not big on major established names (with a couple exceptions), but it is filled with a wide swath of unique musical performers. The festival will take place from March 7 to March 11 and will be hosted, as usual, in a variety of clubs and venues in all-out music free-for-all.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is among this week’s biggest additions. The Florida alt-rock band hadn’t released a new album since 2014 when the reemerged with The Awakening in 2018. The band’s spent time on a variety of labels, including Virgin for their debut Don’t You Fake It. Black Needle Noise will also be at SXSW 2019. For those that aren’t aware, this is the newest project of acclaimed producer John Fryer. He’s released songs like “The UpSide Down” and videos for “That Which Watches” and “SyStem Bi” – and most recently “Gone” featuring Yvette Winkler.
Skatenigs is another noteable name that will be appearing at SXSW 2019. The Austin, TX based industrial band was an offshoot of Ministry and vocalist Phil Owens was a sometime collaborator with Revolting Cocks. The band last released Adult Entertainment For Kids in 2016. Other artists playing the festival include Cincinnati rock band The Ophelias, Los Angeles indie-folk group Run River North, Tennessee singer-songwriter Ryan Culwell and Australian controversy-cultivator Kirin J Callinan.
