Country music legend Kris Kristofferson teamed up with an unlikely musical partner with Marilyn Manson last Sunday during a performance at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Manson joined Tanya Tucker, Shooter Jennings and Dennis Quaid along with Kristofferson for a performance of “Why Me,” one of the singer’s classic hits and best known songs.
After this performance, Manson took to social media to praise Kritofferson for inviting the influential industrial metal artist on stage. Manson referenced Kristofferson as the “original Star is Born,” a nod to Kristofferson’s role in the original 1976 A Star is Born film, which was remade last year.
Throughout the last year Manson has been touring extensively, yet he has also been forced to cancel certain events due to a variety of issues. Last summer one of his sets was cut short after he passed out on stage during a performance of his classic Eurythmics cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” He received immediate medical attention and soon recovered.
During this same tour with Rob Zombie, another show was eventually cancelled due to the venue flooding at the Jones Beach Theater. Rob Zombie released numerous statements on social media regarding this cancellation.
“We’re really sorry folks that the show at Jones Beach, Wantagh NY, was cancelled tonight due to the extremely bad weather. I’m guessing we’re gonna have to make some extra sacrifices to the rain gods to plead with them to stop screwing with our shows,” the statement read on the artist’s Facebook. “Please see below a note from tonight’s venue and follow them and your ticket point of purchase to be updated on refunds. Sorry again.”
Outside of these show cancellations, Manson has also attracted his fair share of controversy over the last year, after a report from 2011 showed that the artist was accused of sexual assault. An “absence of corroboration,” caused the District Attorney to decline pressing charges against Manson in regards to these claims.
“Under current policy, the Los Angeles County District Attorney must investigate any claim of sexual abuse, no matter how outlandish,” Manson’s lawyer explained.”It is not surprising that the District Attorney, after investigation, summarily rejected the claims made in a police report filed by a former acquaintance against Brian Warner p/k/a Marilyn Manson.
“The allegations made to the police were and are categorically denied by Mr. Warner and are either completely delusional or part of a calculated attempt to generate publicity for the claimant’s business of selling Manson memorabilia. The police report that spurred the investigation was accompanied by the woman’s press release and other attempts to generate publicity that fraudulently claimed she was held captive by Mr. Warner for 48 hours in 2011. Any claim of sexual impropriety or imprisonment at that, or any other, time is false.”
