One of Mexico City’s largest concerts Corona Capital has announced its 2019 line-up in Guadalajara, featuring The Chemical Brothers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tame Impala, Phoenix, Dillon Francis and Chromeo. This concert is set to take place on May 11th, at the Explanada Estadio Akron, best known as the home stadium for the legendary soccer team Guadalajara FC, better known by their nickname the Chivas.
The main Corona Capital takes place in Mexico City, and has featured major headliners and performers such as Foo Fighters, Green Day, Run The Jewels, alt-J and the XX among many others. This iteration is smaller than the main festival, which takes place over a span of three days.
Legendary big beat pioneers The Chemical Brothers continue to release new music, dropping new song and music video for the track “Mah.” This new single is set to be on the group’s upcoming album No Geography, their ninth studio album which is set to be released this year.
Another track released by the group before the announcement of this album was “Free Yourself,” a newer club anthem for the artists. During a music video for the track a building of androids is shown breaking free from a building before making their way to a dance club.
Karen O, the frontwoman for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs has been working hard on her collaborative album with prolific producer Dangermouse. The album, entitled Lux Prima, is set for a March 2019 release, and will feature the title track “Lux Prima,” along with the track “Woman.”
Although Karen O has been releasing more solo material during this time, it seems unlikely that she would tour without the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but she may do a few select shows with Dangermouse.
“[There are]Some special gigs you know but probably not a world tour!” Karen O explained during an interview. “It’s probably a handful of some special gigs – but we have some cool stuff cooking up for that!”
In regards to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band gave vague update regarding new material for the group in an interview released in 2018. She explains that she is waiting for her band mates to get inspired for the recording process as well.
“[It’s] the guys for the most part, I think they’re waiting on my just ‘getting struck by inspiration’ for it, y’know?” Karen O explained. “A lot has changed in my life in the last 5 years and I’m just kinda waiting for the inspiration to hit me – and then we’ll go.”
Tame Impala have been festival mainstays this year, headlining most major festivals with major appearances at Coachella, Primavera Sound, and Boston Calling this year. The band’s front man Kevin Parker states that new music may be on the way for the band this year despite extensive touring.
“I would very much hope so [to release a new Tame Impala record in summer 2019], I’d be very disappointed if we didn’t have something out by then,” he explained. “I mean, I love playing the songs live, I love playing Currents songs, I love playing Lonerism songs and everything, but I think I’m ready to play some other songs live. All the instinctual things are there.”
