Myrkur Announces Plans to Record New Folk Album

Myrkur is back in the studio already working on her next record. After recently releasing her EP Juniper, the songstress is already hard at work on her next effort. In a recent tweet provided by The PRP, she has hinted that her next album will lean more toward the folk genre and gently hinting at the producer of her third album. See the Instagram post below.

Real name Amalie Bruun also recently shared her version of the Danish folk song“Bonden Og Kragen,” noted to be about  “a peasant/farmer who ventures into the woods and shoots crow.” Brunnhails from Denmark, providing albums as a solo artist and a bandmate to her former band Ex-Cops. Both efforts have received critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Spin, and NPR Music. Her 2017 album, Mareridt also received much critical acclaim, including a High Fidelity ranking from mxdwn. Bruun also sat down with mxdwn early last year for an interview, discussing her former band Ex-Cops, black metal, and Scandinavian folk music and it’s importance. In the interview, she states  “I think it’s pretty important. It’s in my blood. I can’t escape it. In terms of anything to do with culture and folk music, it’s an ancient art form that is passed-down knowledge.” As far as seeing a potential Ex-Cops reunion and new music, do not count on that anytime soon. “Oh, no… we stopped in 2014. The beauty of it is that we really didn’t have to break up. We just made a record, and then I made a different record.”
