With just a few weeks until Brooklyn electro R&B trio Bedstudy release their new EP dot wave on February 15, they’re releasing a new song from the record called “I-V.” It’s a dynamic, funky R&B gem featuring futuristic backing instrumentation and Peter Baldwin’s silky-smooth vocals. Today we’re excited to premiere the new track.
“‘I-V’ is about wanting a relationship with someone but not knowing if you’ll find love or emotional entanglement,” said the band in a statement. “You wonder if it’s possible to present yourself (and your past) honestly and not have that honesty used against you. That battle between past and present is heard in the constant back and forth of a two-chord progression. The soundscape is full of questions. It remains shrouded in mystery until it finally bursts open into deep yearning. And when it’s all said and done, the truth is that your love is the love that is guarded.”
Bedstudy formed in New York in 2016 and have been creating their sound using a variety of instruments, including modular synths, classical guitars and a variety of samples mined from the internet. The members of the group include producer David Plakon, Baldwin on vocals and the newest member, Ranson Vorpahl, who joined the band in 2017 on drums. While the band has released four singles since signing with Grand Jury Records, dot wave will be their first collection of material. They previously released the single “12” from the upcoming album.
