Trust this band to stay in the music scene
Even after 20 years since their first album, Papa Roach knows how to stay true to their roots while finding ways to stay fresh. With each new album, the rock band continues to be a group to watch in the music industry. In their long career, they’ve figured out how to reinvent themselves and keep old fans listening while attracting new ones due to the new elements they add. Honestly, it seems like they get bolder with each new album and steer how far they can push integrating new styles and sounds.
When Crooked Teeth came out in 2017, the rap they started to incorporate was a welcome surprise that they were able to pull off. Ultimately, that album was met with acclaim for the way the band balanced the new and old sound. In Who Do You Trust, even more songs shift from intense rapping sequences to the standard vocals that Jacoby Shaddix is known for. Both “Elevate” and “Top Of The World” are two of the more rap-heavy songs but the latter ends with familiar strong, heavy vocals.
From the first track, “The Ending,” people hear the fluid transition between the different style of vocals, but it’s one of the tracks that sound more like their older works. But, people learn early on that they should expect this album to be different. “Renegade Music,” the second song of the album, asks people “are you ready for some new shit? Stand up, this is renegade music.”
As this line is in the second song, one can’t help but think it’s a warning for the rest of the album to come. Also, having released “Renegade Music” and “Who Do You Trust?” back in October, fans already had a feel of the different vibe the band is embracing. But fans can and should be reassured by Papa Roach’s previous albums that they aren’t losing who they truly are.
Ultimately, this band knows what works for them and how they can use their versatile skills to continue creating fresh content. 20 plus years in the industry doesn’t phase them, and their creative spark hasn’t wavered since it was lit back in 1993.
