SXSW Music Festival Announces Fourth Round of 2019 Showcasing Artists Featuring John Vanderslice, Drab Majesty and John Paul Stevens

SXSW is entering its phase fast and furious showcasing artist announcements, with one set to come just about every week for the near future. This week we have 100 artists being announced, with several names that ring out from the crowd of mostly-obscure rising musical talent. The festival and conference takes place March 8-17, 2019 in Austin. The music portion of the festival runs from March 11-17.

The biggest name of them all is easily John Vanderslice, the singer-songwriter who served as frontman for MK Ultra and then went on to have a successful solo career, mostly releasing albums through Barsuk Records. Also worth noting is John Paul White, a former member of The Civil Wars who has also had a successful solo career in his own right. He’s released two solo albums, first 2008’s The Long Goodbye and then 2016’s Beulah, which came after the band called it quits in 2014.

Drab Majesty, the Los Angeles darkwave band fronted by androgynous lead singer Deb Demure. Laura Stevenson, a folksy singer-songwriter who once was a member of underground ska-punk legends Bomb The Music Industry! will be performing, as will Los Angeles pop singer Ella Vos. The Rembrandts, yes those The Rembrandts, will be performing at SXSW. Laid-back indie rock band Cayucas and South Carolina indie rock band SUSTO.
