Burger Boogaloo Announces 2019 Lineup Featuring The Jesus and Mary Chain, Shannon and The Clams and Dead Boys

The Bay Area’s Burger Boogaloo has announced its 2019 lineup and it might be the festival’s most impressive yet. Once again being held in Oakland’s cozy Mosswood Park just north of downtown and once again hosted by comedian/filmmaker/awesome personality John Waters, this year once again celebrates what’s new and old in punk and alternative. The festival will be held July 6 and 7, 2019.

Headlining the festival is shoegaze-y Scottish indie rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain, who released their first new album in 19 years Damage and Joy last year. Other classic bands who’ve made their mark on the annals of punk rock that’ll be appearing at the festival include Australian punk and then swamp rock band The Scientists, Cleveland’s punk icons Dead Boys, British garage punk Billy Childish, punk pioneers Jayne County and the Electric Chairs (who were once known as Wayne County and the Electric Chairs until their singer transitioned to a women), and in maybe the most unique addition to the lineup is Eddy Grant of R&B group The Equals, most famous for their excellent pop gem “Baby Come Back.”

On the newer side of things are a bunch of bands who are undoubtedly indebted to some of older bands preforming at the festival. Bay Area retro-garage band Shannon & The Clams will be performing at what is not their first Burger Boogaloo nor likely their last. The band released their latest album Onion in 2018, which was released on Dan Auerbach’s label Easy Eye Sound. Joining them are Sheer Mag, the hard-rock inspired punk band that made serious waves with their album Need To Feel Your Love in 2017. Rounding out the 2019 lineup is Amyl and the Sniffers, Phantom Surfers, Nikki Corvette and Terry & Louie.

UPDATE (2/14): Burger Boogaloo has added even more excitement to their 2019 lineup with a second round of artists. This wave is headed by King Tuff, who released his excellent new album The Other in 2018. He’ll be performing his 2007 sophomore album Was Dead in full at the festival. Also performing at Burger Boogaloo in Oakland is masked garage-punker Nobunny, Davila 666 reunion, punk band Timmy’s Organism – who released Survival of The Fiendish last year and shock-punk veterans The Dwarves.
