Pegi Young, musician and former wife of Neil Young, died on January 1 after a year-long battle with cancer, according to Pitchfork. She is survived by Ben and Amber, her two children with Neil Young. A statement has been posted on Young’s official Facebook page.
Pegi sang back-up on Neil’s tours for years, and started her solo career with her debut album in 2007. She also released five albums and fronted a band called Pegi Young and the Survivors. Her last album, Raw, was released in 2017.
Pegi and Neil Young founded the Bridge School in 1986, having been inspired by their son Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy. The Bridge School provides aid to children with physical and speech impairments. Pegi and Neil put on an all-star benefit concert for the school every year from 1986-2016.
